Apple Mail and IMAP Autodiscover

I think zeroconfiguration networking is a great thing. MDNS is an example of this super cool technology. The use of SRV records is also really cool. Apple loves this stuff, right? Then why does the Mail App still not support any kind of automatic configuration discovery for standard IMAP/SMTP accounts? No DNS lookups, no HTTP(s) requests to your domain for a special configuration file (I’d even settle for something nonstandard / Apple Mail only).
